Setting up Astra Traffic Collector

The Astra Traffic Collector allows you to monitor and analyze your API traffic by securely capturing traces and sending them to Astra. Depending on where your API traffic originates, choose the setup path that fits your environment best.


1. Capturing Traffic from Your Laptop (Browser, Postman, Hoppscotch, curl, Burp, etc.)

Use this method if you want to capture traffic from local tools or your browser during manual or exploratory testing.

Steps

  • Install Astra CLI: The Astra CLI helps you easily set up:

    • Astra Traffic Collector

    • Astra Proxy Service

  • Configure Proxy: The Proxy Service enables your local tools to route traffic through Astra for capture.

2. Capturing Traffic from Staging or Production Environments

If you need to collect traffic from cloud environments, virtual machines, or Kubernetes clusters, follow the guides below.

For Linux-based Virtual Machines (VMs)

Set up Astra Traffic Collector on AWS, GCP, Azure, DigitalOcean, or on-premises VMs using Docker Compose and system-level configuration.

For Kubernetes Clusters

Deploy Astra Traffic Collector inside your Kubernetes cluster using Helm charts or kubectl to capture and forward API traffic.
