How to Create a Sensor Integration for API Observability
Last updated: June 11, 2026
Introduction
A Sensor Integration connects your API infrastructure to Astra's Traffic Collector, enabling Astra to capture and analyze your API traffic. This guide walks you through creating a sensor integration from the Astra Dashboard.
Prerequisites
Access to the API Security Platform
Appropriate user permissions to create integrations
Steps
Log in to the Astra Dashboard.
From the main navigation menu, select API Security, then Traffic Connectors.
Select the workspace under which the integration should be created.
Locate the sensor type that matches your environment, such as NGINX, Envoy, Kong, or API Gateway, and click Connect next to it.
Complete the on-screen setup process.
At the end of setup, you will be provided with a Sensor ID. Copy and store it securely.
Confirm the sensor appears in the Active Integrations section.
You can retrieve the Sensor ID at any time from the integration's details page.
Best Practices
Store the Sensor ID and any related credentials in a secure secrets manager.
Keep the Sensor ID handy before starting your Traffic Collector setup, as it is required during configuration.
Troubleshooting
The sensor does not appear in Active Integrations after setup. Refresh the page. If it still does not appear, repeat the setup process or raise a support ticket from your Astra dashboard.
I lost my Sensor ID. Navigate to API Security, then Traffic Connectors, and open the integration's details page to retrieve it.
